The problem: the fields in Trentino are strongly reducing and changing: some of them are invaded by the forests, some others are subject to massive fertilization and are sown with forage crops to increase productivity and others are transformed into more profitable crops. Habitat: meadows are artificial environments, created and maintained through mowing, of particular value since they host animals and plants of community interest as well as many orchids and birds such as the corncrake (Crex crex), the red-backed shrike (Lanius collurio) the ortolan (Emberiza hortulana), and bats like Blyth vespertilio (Myotis blythii), dasicneme vespertilio (Myotis dasycneme) and the greater mouse-eared bat (Myotis myotis). What LIFE + T.E.N. will do: this demonstrative action will be carried out in the two sites of NATURA 2000 Network of Bocca d'Ardole and Talpina-Brentonico, on Mount Baldo. Thanks to it, meetings with private owners will be promoted to advertise meadows conservation measures established by the Rural Development Plan of the Autonomous Province of Trento. During the meetings, the creation of an association formed by the owners of meadows and finalized to mowing will be promoted. Then, grasslands of public property currently invaded by shrubs and trees will be recovered so as to provide a concrete example in this regard. Finally, on the meadows of the two sites herbaceous species seeds will be collected, multiplied and conserved so that they can be used in grassland recovery interventions avoiding the use of grassed-up mixtures composed of species of non-local origin with consequent problems of "floral pollution."
