4) The Alpine Convention and the pan-Alpine Ecological Network

The Alpine Convention is an international treaty signed by Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, the Principality of Monaco, Slovenia and Switzerland and by the European Union with the objective of achieving environmental protection and the promotion of sustainable development in the Alps.

The Standing Committee of the Alpine Convention established in 2006 the "Ecological Network Platform".It is a forum of experts to develop common strategies to contribute to the conservation of biodiversity in the Alps and ensure the connection between natural habitats, thus implementing the Protocol of the Alpine Convention "Nature protection and landscape conservation" which has as one of its major goals the establishment of an ecological network in the Alps
